| Acid-free | This term is generally used to describe paper materials with a 7 pH, or very close to 7 pH. Acid-free materials are more permanent and less likely to damage or discolour over time. |
| Alkaline | A chemical substance that has a pH greater than 7. It can be added to materials containing acid to neutralize the acid it may come into contact with in the future. |
| Analogous colours | Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. |
| Archival | Describes the framing procedure where all materials are completely acid-free. |
| Bevel | Cutting or shaping the edge or end of a material to form an angle that is not a right angle, such as the bevel cut on the window edge of a mat. |
