Term Definition
Acid-freeThis term is generally used to describe paper materials with a 7 pH, or very close to 7 pH. Acid-free materials are more permanent and less likely to damage or discolour over time.
 
AlkalineA chemical substance that has a pH greater than 7. It can be added to materials containing acid to neutralize the acid it may come into contact with in the future.
 
Analogous coloursColors that are next to each other on the color wheel.
 
ArchivalDescribes the framing procedure where all materials are completely acid-free.
 
BevelCutting or shaping the edge or end of a material to form an angle that is not a right angle, such as the bevel cut on the window edge of a mat.
