Term Definition
FillerCardboard that fills the back of the frame and keeps your photos from shifting.

FilletA narrow strip of wood placed in the rabbet of a moulding or inside a mat opening,  to provide an accent color or texture.

Finishes Photo frames come in a variety of finishes, colours and materials. Finishes such as black or white are fairly simple to understand, while others are a little more tricky. Here's a selection of frame finishes: clear wood, chestnut, walnut, polished gold, etc.

Floating framesAlso called "Float frames" or "L-frames". The floating frames are an alternative to the canvas wrap. The canvas is carefully set amongst the deep frame, leaving a gap between the canvas and the frame. This is where the description "floating" gets its name.

French lineHand-painted line on the surface of matboard that acts as a decorative border.
